Creating an Urban Winter Wonderland

As the sun sets on a chilly winter night, and people return to their homes and apartments, the city they reside in comes alive with the dazzling and twinkling of holiday lights. Candy canes and snowflakes decorate the streets and seemingly float in the air as they give off their holiday glow just as yards and houses are lit up with enchanting displays of the festive season, brightening up even the most sour of moods. For some, the weather is what determines the season, but for others, the it has no effect on the holiday mood. Warm or cold, it is the season to be with friends and family and bask in the happiness that comes with the glow of the season. The feelings the season gives off is intensified by holiday lights, whether that be on Christmas trees or adorning the outlines of houses. So much so that for many, the lights are as synonymous for the holiday season as holiday music and presents, and putting the lights up is somehow not as much of a bother as other daily chores because of the known fact that they will help spread holiday cheer.

Taking loved ones to view the extravagant lights has become one of the most cherished holiday traditions, and every city does their best to spread the as much cheer as possible. However, the planning and inventory of the lights does not evoke the same emotions as lighting and mounting the decorations, but the work becomes worth it seeing the grins and smiles when the first bulb gets lit. Known for LeBron James and rock and roll, Cleveland, Ohio also sports a rich holiday atmosphere. The cold, winter months are warm and inviting in the holiday season, and in fact is the perfect setting for rich and extravagant lights that capture the essence of the holidays perfectly. Planning for the season has already begun, and the City of Cleveland is looking for vendors who are willing and capable of fulfilling the decorating needs of the city.

The scope of work includes Christmas decorations for the building at 1201 Lakeside and includes decorating the exterior with a newly decorated wreath and decorating the interior with a new artificial Christmas tree, along with garnishing the café and entrance. The bid closes on August 15, 2024 at 3:00 PM, but more information can be found at this link. Potential contractors can also contact Jules Gilliam at jgilliam@clevelandohio.gov to learn more.
